OmaHomma – Make your own summer job

What is OmaHomma?

OmaHomma is a summer program for students who want to turn their skills, ideas, or interests into real income during the summer. Instead of relying on traditional summer job applications, OmaHomma encourages students to take initiative and create their own opportunities through entrepreneurship, freelancing, or side hustles.

The program is designed to be low-threshold and flexible, making it accessible even if you don’t yet have a fully formed business idea. The goal is simple: help students build something real, earn money, and gain valuable hands-on experience.

Two ways to join

OmaHomma runs in two application waves:

March–April (early round): For students who already have a business idea, side hustle, or freelance concept. Participants get early access to sparring and support to start building their idea immediately.

May (open round): For students who don’t yet have an idea but want to explore entrepreneurship and develop one during the program.

What you get

Participants are supported throughout the summer with:

  • Weekly check-ins to stay focused and accountable
  • Practical workshops to build entrepreneurial and business skills
  • Personal guidance and mentoring from experienced startup coaches
  • A dedicated program lead supporting your progress
  • A community of like-minded students
  • Support in finding your first customers and generating income

OmaHomma is free of charge and built to help students take their first steps into entrepreneurship in a supportive environment.

Who is it for?

OmaHomma is aimed at higher education students who may not have secured a traditional summer job but are motivated to create their own opportunities. Whether you already have a clear idea or are just curious about earning money with your skills, the program meets you where you are.

More than a summer job alternative

The lack of summer jobs is a growing structural challenge, not just an individual problem. OmaHomma offers a concrete response by helping students turn uncertainty into action. Previous participants have built real services such as coaching businesses and small entrepreneurial projects during the summer.

OmaHomma program is funded by the University of Turku.
